1.Introduction
This privacy policy explains how Gamebook Creator collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
2.Data We Collect
Email address — for account authentication.
Username — for account identification.
Display name — shown publicly on your books.
Password — stored securely as a one-way hash. We never see or store your actual password.
3.How We Use Your Data
Account authentication and identification.
Displaying authorship on published gamebooks.
Account recovery (password reset via email).
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or marketing.
4.Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with service providers that process it on our behalf (such as hosting, sign-in, and automated content moderation), under confidentiality and data-protection obligations, or where required by law.
5.Cookies and Tracking
We do not use tracking cookies or analytics services.
Authentication uses JWT tokens stored in your browser's local storage (not cookies).
If single sign-on (SSO) is used, a short-lived technical cookie (10 minutes) is used solely for the login handshake and then discarded.
6.Comments and Interactions
When you post comments on published gamebooks, we collect and store:
Comment content — the text you write in your comments and replies.
Display name — shown alongside your comments.
Likes — which comments you have liked.
Timestamps — when comments were posted and edited.
7.Content Moderation Data
To maintain community standards, we may collect and process:
Reports — if you report a comment or a creature, we store the reason, any description you provide and that you made the report. When you delete your account, your pending reports are dismissed and your identifier is removed from your reports.
Moderation actions — records of content that was hidden, restored, or suspended by moderators.
Creature text and uploaded artwork may be sent to content-moderation providers for automated checks. Our moderation records store the outcome (decision and category scores) and content fingerprints (hashes), not the content itself.
Reports and flagged content may be viewed by moderators. This data is used for enforcing our terms of service.
When you delete your account, your moderation records are anonymized: your user identifier and content fingerprints are removed. Application logs are kept only for a limited period and then deleted automatically.
8.Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secured servers.
Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms — we cannot read your password.
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure.
9.Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your personal data and sole-authored content are permanently removed. Your creature uploads are deleted when you delete the creature or your account; independent copies made by co-authors remain theirs. When you delete your account, your moderation records are anonymized: your user identifier and content fingerprints are removed. Application logs are kept only for a limited period and then deleted automatically.
Comments you posted are anonymized (your display name is replaced with "Deleted User") but the comment text remains to preserve conversation context. Your comment likes and reports are permanently deleted.
10.Your Rights
Access: You can view your account information in your profile settings.
Rectification: You can update your display name through your profile settings.
Deletion: You can delete your account at any time, which removes your personal data and sole-authored content.
Data Export: You can export your gamebooks individually through the book export feature.

11.Children
If you are under the age of 13, you must obtain permission from a parent or legal guardian before creating an account or using Gamebook Creator. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data without your consent, please contact us at the email below so we can take appropriate action.
12.Changes to This Policy
We may change this policy as the service evolves, including for new features, providers, or paid plans. We will notify you of material changes, for example through an in-app notice. The "Last Updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision.
13.AI Data Processing
When you use the AI writing assistance feature, the following data is sent to an AI language model:
The paragraph text you are editing
Your writing instruction (e.g., "make it more dramatic")
The book's theme (if set)
Recent conversation history with the AI for that paragraph
This data is processed solely to generate the requested content suggestion. The AI feature is entirely optional — your gamebooks work fully without it.
14.Third-Party Sign-On
When you log in using a third-party provider (Google or Microsoft), we receive the following information from that provider:
Your email address
Your display name
Your profile identifier
We use this data solely to create and authenticate your account. Your use of third-party sign-on is subject to that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
15.Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data on the following grounds:
Consent — by using this service and logging in (whether through registration or single sign-on), you consent to the collection and processing of your data as described in this policy.
Contract performance — processing is necessary to provide you with the service (e.g., storing your gamebooks, authenticating your identity).
Legitimate interest — we may process data to maintain the security and integrity of the service.
16.Service Providers
Microsoft Azure — hosting and storage.
Google and Microsoft — optional sign-in.
OpenAI — automated content moderation of creature text and artwork. Under its API data-usage terms, API data is not used to train models; OpenAI may retain it for a limited period for abuse monitoring.

17.Creature Artwork
Uploaded artwork is re-encoded, removing camera and location metadata (EXIF/GPS). Your uploads are visible to you and your co-authors (and moderators). Your uploads are deleted when you delete the creature or your account; independent copies made by co-authors remain theirs.
